The arrival of a new baby is an exciting time and one of the most memorable moments of a person’s life. It is also a time that presents many new challenges and adjustments for you and your family. The Western Australian Department of Health is here to support you and your family throughout this rewarding journey.
This publication contains easy to read articles about the health and wellbeing of you and your baby. It will give you a place to start in answering the many questions you may have in these early months with your baby and lists additional services if you need more information or support. The articles in this magazine have been developed from the most up-to-date research and the knowledge and wisdom of parents, nurses, midwives, doctors, psychologists and other professionals.
Community Child Health Nurses are employed by the Department of Health and are located in Child Health Centres throughout WA. As well as offering an initial home visit to all parents of newborns, they provide regular health and development checks for your child. They can also assist with information about many aspects of parenting and family health and are able to link you to doctors in your community, hospitals and other health professionals when needed.
